The Dream

by CeCe Gable

Many years ago, I was walking with a friend in San Francisco when I shared with her that I had a dream of singing in Italy one day. Thirty minutes later, I was invited to sing in a villa in Lucca. The offer seemed so outlandish to me at that moment that I just could not do it. I was not sure it was the right time. I would have to wait thirty years before I received another invitation to sing in Italy. It came in 2023 with the offer to perform at the International Tyrrhenian Jazz Festival in the lovely village of Santa Domenica Talao, in the mountains near Scalea above the Tyrrhenian Sea.

“Life is but a Dream” and dreams are what make a life - or at least what offer a roadmap for the road ahead. I have been on many roads, most of which are less traveled. My dream to sing in Italy came to fruition all these years later and what a gift it has been. This time, I went wholeheartedly because was ready.

This project survived a worldwide pandemic and numerous obstacles that might have detoured its completion. But here it is, thanks to everyone involved - sort of a milestone in my life. These songs were chosen because they have been popular with audiences for many years. They represent a mosaic of songs spanning decades, from when I first landed in Reno (not even knowing I was a vocalist!) to my early performances and recordings and my recent years recording in New York. They are as varied and different from one another as my less traveled road has been from the masses. But they came together to create a story that honors my dream come true, which inspired the title track of this album, Love on the Tyrrhenian.

I dedicate this album to Scalea by the sea, the Tyrrhenian Sea.
