CeCe Gable has a way to hold back on a lyric and letting it go at just the right time, using her timing to perfection as she teams with bassist Harvie S along with Roni Ben-Hur/g, Brian Landrus/gs-bcl and Sylvia Cuenca/dr on this rich mix of standards. She’s soft and fragile to Ben-Hur’s strums and S’s coaxings on “East Of The Sun” and dainty with the guitarist on “As Long As I Live” and tender “Fotografia” , delivering a rich duet with the bassist on the intro to “What Is This Thing Called Love” before the rest of the band ambles in. Landrus’ baritone sax surrounds gable on the intimate “Love Is A Necessary Evil” and the two are in calm waters for “Detour Ahead”. She shows she can assert herself as well, digging in behind the beat as the bassist supplies the shovel for “My Shining Hour”.
